Two people are dead and 43 injured some of them in critical conditions, but who cares? apparently only those with no Internet connection.
Every time it rains, bus accidents on the external roads of Amman happen. The first thing I look for in the Jordanian blogosphere is some responsible reaction only to find none. Some people seem to be more into “freedom of speech” and other complicated issues that are important but not as important as the soul and living conditions of the average Jordanian who takes Hijazi busses to Irbid, Ramtha and generally anywhere outside of Amman.
People are dying because of the carelessness of the drivers, wether because they’ve been driving for more than 10 hours or because of being simply reckless, it is not acceptable! I’ve been to Irbid before and I know how reckless some of the bus drivers can be. Something must be done about it. I listened to the radio this morning, as usual, the taxi driver is listening to Mohammed Al-Wakeel (his first name is Moh. right?), I actually like this program, at least they’re trying to do something right. So if the authorities know what the problem is, why don’t they fix it? and instead of defending themsleves, how about taking some responsibility? it’s funny really, hearing them accusing drivers of being the problem, we already know that, but it doesn’t mean they’re off the hook! Nobody showed sorrow or regret, nobody bothered saying he’s sorry; not that saying that will solve the problem but show some sympathy and sense of accountability for God’s sake.
Somebody you know could’ve been among those who died or were severly injured. King Hussein -may God rest his soul- always spoke of how valuable the human life is; shouldn’t Jordanians defend their basic human right of safety before they throw a fit over something, mind you, silly especially in comparison and especially that those who speak of those higher human rights sadly never speak of the lower basic rights the majority of the population are still struggling to earn?
Speak up.
