A Masculine Chocolate Bar!

22Dec06

I stopped by the grocery shop down the street today as usual to see if they got my favorite Cadbury with fruits and nuts; consuming at least one bar of chocolate every other day has become a new guilty pleasure of mine. Well, I didn’t find my favorite chocolate, but I found something far more interesting: a masculine chocolate bar, with the claim: “It’s not for girls!” as a slogan. What was even more interesting is that I hesitated before I decided that I don’t wanna try a chocolate that was arrogantly marketed as an only-for-men chocolate.

I think it’s a brilliant idea. Very daring and controversial. Call me naive but before I read “Nestle” at the side, I had hope it was made in Jordan especially that the wrap looked different than the rest and kinda too colorful but simple.

Why is anything that is labeled “Not for girls” immediately considered “Arrogant”?

Many of the power bars contain vitamins and additives absolutely not suitable for female consumption and might be very harmful. Some items shouldn’t even be handled by women (yes, not even touch them)

I guess with your defensive attitude, you didn’t think of that! But relax, the world is not out to get you

There’s Yorkie in Jordan???? Sweet! It was one of my all-time favourites back when I was in England….oh dear lord, it’s got lots of raisin-y goodness. Where did you find it?

Qwaider, please grow up. I talked about this particular chocolate bar and I even said it is a brilliant marketing strategy, but if you know anything at all about marketing you’ll know that psychology is very important and so is the consumer behavior. Sooo when I said I thought it was positioned “arrogantly” as only for men I was talking about my first impression which made me not buy it.

Get over yourself and get off my back.

Fedaykin, I suppose you’re familiar with Jordan University’s street? you know where Mcdonald’s and KFC are, on the same side there’s a grocery shop called “el 3amarye”. It’s right next to Chili House.

Actually if you’re coming to today’s meeting I’ll get you one : )

“not for girls” actually kinda implies not for wimpy, cowardly (you get the meaning) men.

    Shaden,

Unfortunately, I’m not very familiar with U of J…was there a couple of weeks ago to interview a Professor, but that’s probably the second time I’ve ever been in there.

Thanks for the offer, but I shall have to pass. Staying mysterious in the blogging community gives me an air of mystique and credibility because I can be a Kinder Bueno (anything my reader wants me to be).

Or is it just that it’s time for my medication again?

Me grow up? Scorpio is so defensive when cornered. LOL
Getting off your back … And attempting to grow up… Will let you know how boring that is going to be..

In the future, try to be more respectful, because trust me, I’m not at loss of ways to reply.

I saw this candy bar in England this summer. I never figured it would make its way to the Middle East.

    Qwaider, hmmm whatever?

Hassan, it’s purely marketing. You can look up my name in an Arabic dictionary, but it means the young deer.

Dave, it’s cool that it did. BTW, it was nice seeing you in the meeting, too bad we didn’t get to talk but I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did : )

    hhaha, Yorkie is yummy
i love how it’s made for men only, the way the freakin Galaxy people make it for women only! I enjoy seeing that logo on it…

I wouldn’t say it got anything with sexism or anything,
    they’re being rather ‘exclusive’, hehe

Yeah Yorkies are lovely, when I saw the slogan, I thought to myself screw you, I’m having it! So yeah it’s a good marketing strategy for men and women.

i think they should design a new red hot yorkie thats not for boys.. have the packaging in flames would be nice to see that that way people would not be complaining that it was arrigant.. or sexist… :)
