Theft is Different in Dubai

In Jordan, robbery has a style, everything does. Usually, it involves one or more men and they follow one of the following two methods:

1- they enter, they physically harm the poor guy in charge of the shop often with a special kind of hammers called “Shakoosh” by Jordanians. It’s the most used weapon by thieves; for years, an urban myth called “Abu Shakoosh” served as good material for comedy shows on Jordan TV. After that they empty the cash register, take everything they can and leave.

2- they break in after midnight. They target the houses of Jordanians who currently live outside, most probably in the gulf, and small jewelry shops.

Crimes obviously happen differently in the UAE. Drunk villains break into a shopping mall with their cars, rob jewelry worthy of 35 million dollars and leave.

That was crazy, never heard of similar incidents in Dubai before! but there’s a first time for everything…

    “Drunk”?

I think someone needs to be very sober to pull off something like that!
Precision driving, Inside the mall, no one was harmed, and the timing…

What do you think? Would a drunk person be able to pull something like this off when they’re unable to walk in a straight line?

I think they said they were “Drunk” only to salvage their image in the public eye … they want to maintain the cliche that it is the safest place in the world … apparently not!!!

They’re not drunk at all, they’re more sober than anyone. A job like this is well planned in advance and can only be carried out by a group of highly professional criminals. This is by far the most organized heist in Dubai’s history and it will change the security scene in the UAE. Here are some facts I gathered which makes it one of the most perfect heists in the region (although it happened at 9pm when the mall was packed with shoppers and visitors:

1- The heist happened at 9 pm and they were armed with machine guns.
2- They stole two special vehicles that do not slip/skid when driven on marble (Wafi City’s floor).
3- They disabled the airbag systems on both stolen cars so when they crashed into the mall’s glass doors the air bags did not pop out.
4- They never spoke a single word during the heist and no one could tell where they’re from (there are speculations that they are from the Russian Mafia. Not confirmed though).
5- They only stole the most expensive pieces in Chopard and the other place (more than 54 Million Dirhams = over 14,7 million $)
6- All this happened in less than 2 minutes!
7- All four men were armed with machine guns.
8- They burnt both cars immediately after fleeing the scene, and had a third stolen vehicle waiting for them. With no traces whatsoever.
