Palestinians Won the Elections

27Jan06

Despite of my reservations on few crazy things Hamas has done in the past, I am actually happy with the results, it made me giggle to know that despite of everything and everyone people chose Hamas and because the world loves democracy, well, everybody should just shut the hell up now and collaborate.

I am expetionally proud of Palestinians, who despite of the occupation and the shitty life they live set a wonderful example of civility and by leading a successful democratic experience in the elections. They have done what no other Arab country could do.

Anyway…lets keep in mind that Palestinians didn’t have many choices to start with. I’m not with Hamas, I’m not with Fatah I am with the people!

Fatah received aids from the US and had all possible support from Israel and the US, their victory would have been illegal, and hence the elections should be cancelled and maybe redone.

I’ve been watching the post-elections speeches and reactions, and I dare say Fatah’s reaction was very irresponsible and if it shows anything, it shows vanity and selfishness. Fatah refuses to take part in the new government, they have guts in fact, knowing that they’ve cheated by receiving external aids, basically they’ve betrayed their own people. One of the reasons why Hamas won is because opposition from Fatah have voted for Hamas only to teach Fatah a lesson. But I’m not saying Fatah is bad and Hamas is good, no, both sides are just like any other political party have their cons and pros. I do not see Hamas being as bad as some would like to show though, seems like anything with the word “Islam” mentioned somewhere will make some people panic and throw a fit.

Bottom line, that’s what Palestinians inside want, you either support them or not but don’t think you have the right to choose for them (or speak for them for that matter).

Iman, What part of what’ve quoted you didn’t get?

Please check the second link right below my post.

Palestinians Won the Elections for Failure. This is how I can describe it.

East Bank Jordanian , who cares about you? hate them as much as you like, I’m one of them and I can say I’m enough enlighted to allow you spill your guts over here.

shaden, I just don’t get what you mean! so i was asking for an explanation

East Bank Jordanian: Thanks for your opinion…but at least the Palestinian chose their representation through a democratic process! ;)

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 shaden Posted January 27th, 2006 - 2:02 am

Haitham, I disagree with you. Every Palestinian principal today admitted the great job Palestinians have done this time. Knowing what they’re going through, we are all ought to be ashamed of ourselves.

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 Iman Posted January 27th, 2006 - 2:04 am

Haitham, it is way too early to judge… I am very disappointed to say the very least, but let’s wait and see what the outcome will be

  9. 9 Haitham Posted January 27th, 2006 - 2:06 am

    shaden,

what are you talking about? Ashamed of ourselves for what?

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 shaden Posted January 27th, 2006 - 2:11 am

Haitham, they have lead a successful (near successful if you like) democratic experience despite of the bad circumestances they’re living in, we on the other hand despite of our LOVE for democracy are yet to learn that.

Iman, I know you were only asking

  11. 11 Haitham Posted January 27th, 2006 - 2:19 am

I can’t get what you are saying tonight…. maybe I should I get some sleep ;-)

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 shaden Posted January 27th, 2006 - 2:25 am

Haitham, I am talking about Palestinians Vs rest of Arabs, in Palestine the elections can be considered a success, in the rest of Arab countries, well, I’m sure you know what is wrong with their elections if they have any.

    P.S Good night :)

  13. 13 Firas Posted January 27th, 2006 - 2:47 am

All the credit goes for the PNA for having a clean and fair electoins!

I’m not sure Hamas after 4 years(if they make it through) will do the same!
They have already put their flag over the parliment!
Remember that these are not the first free and democratic election in Palestine!

    well said shaden …
i was really very disappointed today, no not because hamas won, because what i’ve read in jordan planet …
i’ am really happy that they won …

actully its not us who are allowed to judge hamas and fateh … palestanians themself must talk about that, coz they are the only pepole who have the truth about it and they know whom are the best for them …
and thats why they chosed hamas …

maybe i will write a post about this issue later, coz i have lots of facts about fateh and how they are not the right group to lead palesatians … i’ve been there before and i know who is fateh and who is hamas …

  17. 17 Ibrahim Posted January 27th, 2006 - 6:24 am

correction: i meant by palestinians, palestinians inside Palestine …

  18. 18 Hamzeh Posted January 27th, 2006 - 7:03 am

Well, my only grief with Hamas for the past decade was centered on the fact that they do not cooperate with the rest of the Palestinians in terms of Palestinian government. You can only imagine my disapointment that now Fat7 is not going to cooperate.

As for Hamas, I don’t know, we’ll have to see, but if they don’t put a leash on their armed gunmen who will now feel that they can move even more liberally pointing their weapons at their Palestinian brothers who don’t happen to be “like them”, then I’m afraid Hamas is gonna be the loser in the long end, and with it the entier population of Palestine.

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 Iman Posted January 27th, 2006 - 7:04 am

Ibrahim, I am looking forward to your thoughts as to why Fateh is not the right group to lead

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 Iman Posted January 27th, 2006 - 7:10 am

Hamzeh, they’ll just have to cooperate .. and i guess you’re right we have to wait and see … in the meantime, I was on one of the Palestinian forums and I came across this:

    ——————————————————————————-
    بلشت النكت ..

    شرطة حماس :
    معك رخصة ؟ نعم
    معك تأمين ؟ نعم

    على وضوء ؟ لا

    :re:

I bet they have some truth to them :p

    Shaden, very well said.
Like Ibrahim, I was extremely shocked to read what some of the bloggers wrote.
Anyway, as I’ve been saying for the last 24 hours, Palestinians inside Palestine are on their own in all this, we are but watchers, we have no right to judge them.
Only time will tell whether their choice was right or not!

Haitham, I understand your disappointment, but it’s not that bad! I personally believe that it can never get worse, i mean innocent people are getting killed, the international power-holding countries are siding with Israel, the land is being stolen, the environment is being destroyed, unemployment is on the rise, what worse can happen? war? what the Palestinians are living is worse than war.

  23. 23 thecutter Posted January 27th, 2006 - 4:37 pm

I am proud of the Palestinian people, hopeful for their future. I am like you, Shaden, I don’t support any party, but I support the people, and let the people they have chosen govern them with wisdom and love.

If the Disapora Palestinians could have voted, of course the result would have been different. But this was not what Fateh wanted. In Italy, we launched a campaign to register Palestinians living here, and the PLO representative was not interested (did not even have an accurate census of them), because he had to go to Ramallah to line up the Fateh candidates. You see, they are paying for their decisions, and this too is part of political reasoning that does not really consider the people, all the people of Palestine, which the PLO is supposed to be the “sole representative” of.

I wish every good thing to the new Parliament and government, and hope that they can bring about the peace and justice that Palestinians have missed for far too long.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 Iman Posted January 27th, 2006 - 8:15 pm

A side note: I cannot stress on how frustrated I am at Hamas replacing the Palestinian flag with their group’s flag soon after the elections results were announced.! Palestine’s flag is red, black, white and green. It is not a solid green! and will never be solid green!

  25. 25 الفلسطينية Posted January 28th, 2006 - 1:28 am

i agree with Iman- i don’t want our flag changed- they can celebrate all they want but dont replace the flag- we have always been a secular soceity and tho hamas is in power now i hope that it wont go as far as what Iman posted : لي بنمسك معاه شريط نانسي عجرم 50 جلدة دحاميس يابوي

in any case if they were to enforce that rule i think israel would stand by such a decision since theyve declared nancy an offical threat to israel.

  26. Gravatar Icon 26 shaden Posted January 28th, 2006 - 1:35 am

Iman, الفلسطينية , I understand your sentiment and I know I should have felt the same but for some reason I’m not! maybe Hamas is just too happy that they wanted to illustrate their victory by putting the party’s flag as to say we Hamas has won. As for your other concerns, come on now, it is not going to be as bad as those jokes show…Lets wait and see.

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 Iman Posted January 28th, 2006 - 2:15 am

Shaden, C’mon now! You don’t see fateh putting up il 3asifa’s flag or il jabha putting up their own. Palestine is every Palestinian’s Palestine. It’s not Hamas’ … You cannot take down the country’s flag and put your own group’s .. I am very sorry if you fail to see/understand the sensitivity of the issue. And yes, we all have been saying all day yesterday and today let’s wait and see what tomorrow will bring our way!

    Thanks

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 shaden Posted January 28th, 2006 - 2:30 am

Iman, I didn’t say I can’t see or understand the sensitivity of the issue!!, there’s no need to compare Hamas to others when it comes to putting up their flag, you’re angry because of a piece of cloth (I fully realize what does this cloth mean, but that’s not my point) and you fail to see how Fatah refuses to participate in the new government, which is more dangerous and harmful to the Palestinians? Not to mention that they haven’t put it there forever, nor do we know who did that anyway!

Actually, if the US and Israel are pissed off because of that (as most of the international news agencies imply) then good for them, it was a momentary kind of thing to celebrate their victory and piss off some people, I’m not going to argue whether it was right to do that because I think it is silly to discuss it, lets discuss their agenda and their future plans better. I’ve listened to Farahat Asaad yesterday and I don’t think it’s fair to scandalize the party just because they’ve put their flag on the Pali parliament for a while soon after such a victory and ignore all the important things the party is trying to do.

P.S Don’t take your anger on me because Fatah did not win the elections.

  29. Gravatar Icon 29 Iman Posted January 28th, 2006 - 2:39 am

    A piece of cloth?

Huh? the U.S. and Israel are pissed off because of that?

Anger? and by the way, your closing comment was so out of place and so very un-necessary …simply put: It’s not about Fatah!

Their agenda? waiting to see that … for, ultimately, it better be an ‘our’ agenda!

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 shaden Posted January 28th, 2006 - 2:45 am

Iman, you said I can’t see/understand the sensitivity of the issue and you seemed angry to me, if I was wrong I’m sorry.

  31. Gravatar Icon 31 Iman Posted January 28th, 2006 - 2:58 am

I was just simply saying that I am sorry IF you don’t see/understand the sensitivity of the issue. I know there is a broader picture that we have to be concentrating on and I am not denying the importance of focusing on the more pressing issues of the elections outcome and will be … and while the flag incident may seem like a minute incident with no significance to some, I find this gesture on their part very significant. They win and the first reaction is taking down the flag and replacing it with their own? in fact it speaks volumes about their mentality! why not place it side by side the Palestinian Flag!?

mmwwwwaa (ice breaker!) lol (OMG i feel like those girls you and I despise!)
